Fine purveyors of exquisite interlinguistic delights

Guerrilla Media Collective is a feminist translation cooperative with a strong focus on the commons. We are an international group of professionals dedicated to preserving the art of translation, and we see our cooperative as a tool for providing sustainable, dignified and ethical work to those in the knowledge sector.

Working as a team means that all of our translations are edited by a second person, guaranteeing the best quality end product.

We advocate for free and open culture, so unless otherwise specified, our texts are licensed for peer production.

We are a
cooperative

We’re not your average translation agency, and we have no aspirations to dominate the linguistic services world or anything of that sort. Everything is done in house: we translate and edit our texts, working in pairs within our own team. Sometimes we also rely on a small and trusted network of collaborators to whom we extend the same working conditions that we apply to ourselves. We care for the humans that work on our translations and we promote the use of cooperative models as a fair and solidarity-based alternative in a sector so often plagued by precarity.

Flying the flag of open culture

Our cooperative, Guerrilla Media Collective, emerged out of the Guerrilla Translation project, which has been building an international knowledge commons since 2014. The articles we translate are our way of sharing ideas that inspire us and help us to grow. We select these texts with intention and care, always with the permission of the author, and we translate them pro bono to make them accessible to a new audience free of charge.

Innovation through commons

In addition to our translation work, we have always documented all of our organisational processes and results achieved that may inspire other activists and ‘game changers’ to take action. In this sense, Guerrilla Media Collective is a laboratory for creating governance models, a testing ground where we translate (pun intended) the principles of cooperativism and other sources of inspiration – the commons, P2P methodologies, feminist economics, alternative value models – into reality. This experimentation and activity ended up being the catalyst for the DisCO.coop project.
