Primavera De Filippi is a postdoctoral researcher at CERSA / CNRS / Université Paris II (Panthéon-Assas). As a firm advocate of free culture and free information, Primavera is involved in several organizations committed to promoting the exchange of cultural knowledge and the defense of Open values.

Fascinated by the intricate relationship between the Internet, the law and society, Primavera has conducted her research in several countries (such as Italy, France, the UK, South Korea and the US) over the past ten years with the aim of exploring the impact of the Internet and digital technologies on the development of culture and innovation.

She joined the Open Knowledge Foundation as coordinator of the Public Domain working group through which she actively contributed to the creation of the Public Domain Calculators and at the end of 2012 she established the French chapter of the Open Knowledge Foundation which she currently coordinates.
She later became the French representative of Creative Commons working as a legal expert to translate, explain and promote the use of Creative Commons licenses in France. In 2013 she co-founded, and currently coordinates, the Dynamic Coalition for Net Neutrality of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum.

Her research project delves into the regulation of distributed architectures based on cloud computing and peer-to-peer technologies through a combination of legal norms, contractual provisions, social norms and technological means. In addition, her involvement in civil society organizations and the feedback she has received from key people in the field has driven the direction of her research.

Primavera is researching the concept of “governance by design” at the Berkman Center as it relates to cloud computing and peer-to-peer technologies; she is exploring innovative governance systems combining regulation by code with contracts and social norms that would support the deployment of decentralized architectures while ensuring respect for civil liberties and legal norms.
